Wow! So glad I ran across your blog — you’ve got such a great series of posts going lately!!
To play devil’s advocate (which is all I seem to be doing on your blog these days–apologies), I remember reading when I went through IVF that IVF tended to produce more male babies than females (link TK) so it may stand to reason that those pursuing gender selection as a component of ART might “request” female offspring in a second child to off-set the male gender of the first child. (Not saying I agree with it, just saying that I can say how that would skew the numbers.)
ooo, after words already said what i was gonna say! the numbers i’ve seen (in fertility & sterility) are on the order of 70/30 male for 5-day transfers, which are increasingly standard.
it is possible that the “request” for girls is less about girls than about gender balance.
