housekeeping, continued

It’s time yet again to prove to Wes that the level of anal cleanliness in our home is NOT the American average.

Remember, whoever you are out there who changes your sheets MORE than once a week, Wes is still waiting for you to marry him.

So…

Our Mountain Of Clothing glares at you from its 5 foot high pile on the chair.

  2. sarzini says:

Tell Wes I changed the sheets TWICE this week – although usually it’s once a week. As for clothes, not only folded from dryer put into drawers/hung up right away and all socks paired. Ironing once a week. I’m such a housewife!

  3. Briar says:

    Sister Wife? Is that you?

  4. melissa says:

If ONLY my life worked so that I could put clothes away immediately – with the two, it’s just not possible. Also, I like to let the clothes sit around in the dryer/hamper in rebellion to the way I grew up, when my Mom had to scamper down immediately to fold my Dad’s uniforms or the sky would fall. So ask Wes, does he REALLY want to emulate that military style of precision and dictatorship? (ha ha)

  5. Cheek says:

I have you and Wes to thank (well, and also Hoarders, but for the completely opposite reason) for opening my eyes to the fact that my sheet-changing situation was truly deplorable. Our bed is much fresher now – keep those housekeeping polls a-comin’!

  6. Calliope says:

    ooooh!! I love a poll!
I used to be better, but since we are essentially living out of plastic bins that are located in the same room as the washer and dryer I am totally a slacker now and sometimes dress W right from the dryer.
But really I just excited that you found Wes’s cleaning soul mate! (& she lives in the northeast too….)

  7. sarzini says:

It is SO much easier to just get it all done at once. Laundry has a sneaky way of literally piling up. Keep the housekeeping polls coming – Wes continues to inspire!

  8. Wes says:

People should know that I’m not super-crazy about this one. It just needs to happen the same day they are dried, not immediately from the dryer.
But I do miss the days of sending out our laundry and getting it back all folded that night. Ahhhh.

  9. It was hard to choose, as sometimes (only rarely, but sometimes) we acheive fold and put away within a day, but more often it’s sit around for days and then get folded, with putting away varying wildly after that. But I want to quibble over diction. A hamper is for dirty clothes. A basket is for clean clothes. Never the twain shall meet.

  10. Briar says:

Meh. I’d fix it if it weren’t such a pain in the ass to do so.

  11. Michelle says:

Wes would totally divorce me, that level of clean/organization gives me hives.
I’m lucky with the laundry though, I do the laundry and Dave folds and puts it away. I don’t mind the folding so much as the putting away.

  12. meanmama says:

Bless you, Briar. I could not deal with all the rules. I see that you get a clean, organized house out of it, and that’s great but jeez. (Sorry Wes. That’s why our torrid love affair could never blossom into a lasting relationship…)
We actually do fold right away. The putting away might happen that day or later, depending. Miss you guys. Wannu trek over? (yeah right!)

  13. gypsygrrl says:

it depends on the mood i am in. i always ALWAYS folde clinical uniforms the second they were done drying. other clothes usually the same day ~ but pajamas? they just hang about in the basket until i need them.

  14. Briar says:

This suggests that I ABIDE by the rules. The most important rule in our house is that tasks deemed of immediate importance must be accomplished by the person doing the deeming. So if it’s THAT important to him that it be done NOW, he has to do it. I will always get around to doing it but not necessarily on his timetable. So either he does it himself or he (itchingly, painfully, with hives breaking out over the agony of it) WAITS for me to do it when I want to. For the most part. Perhaps this deserves its own blog post, as it is one of those things that was marriage-saving for us, I think.

  15. That is a FABULOUS, brilliant rule. And I totally get the not changing hamper to basket. Just wanted to make sure we were on the same page. :)

  16. Deb says:

Had to delurk from my reader to see the survey. Heh! Great way to shop for sisterwives.

  17. meanmama says:

I just assumed you abided by his rules, since you usually walk about 10 steps behind him when I see you together. Heh. Seriously, I am glad that it doesn’t drive you nuts. Sounds like you have it worked out – not always easy when partners have 2 different requirements for housekeeping.

  18. Briar says:

Oh, whatever. You have a newborn!

  19. Briar says:

    This makes me giddy. Thanks.

  20. Briar says:

Same, exactly. I will fold if presented with a basket of clothing while watching TV. I despise putting away.

  21. sarzini says:

Forgot to mention there is a possibility we are moving back to NYC – Brooklyn specifically. I’m all up for sisterwifehood!

  22. Stranger says:

I had to flub a bit because we don’t have a dryer. The question in my house would be, “How long do the clothes stay hanging on the drying rack after they’re dry while the laundry piles up in the hamper but I can’t be bothered to to take the clothes off the rack and fold them and put them away?”
Answer: Usually a day, but up to 3.
The lack of a dryer isn’t a righteous eco thing, BTW (though I do get a righteous glow from it). It’s a Turkey thing.
