ballerina

One of my commenters talked about taking their nearly 2 year old to the ballet, which sounds so lovely. I myself am so crippled by anxiety when faced with the toddler and crowds and societal expectations of behavior that I tend to avoid confronting the whole deal. But I might be able to work up to it in a year or two.

Maybe. Because he LOVES ballerinas.

He loves Zoe from Sesame Street in her tutu. He loves the game on the PBS Arthur website where you pick the right outfit for Muffy to go to ballet class. He loves the episode of Toot and Puddle where Opal learns to do a grand jete. And he love love love love loves Ballerina.

Ballerina

She is a Christmas ornament from my childhood. As is the train she rides.

But I can pretty much guarantee that Ballerina is not going back into a Christmas storage box next month.

When he wakes in the morning, he asks where she is. He insists we make her dance while he does his "rocky roll" rendition of Old MacDonald. She and his guitar are the two things he needs nearby at all times when playing.

So maybe there's hope. Anyone know a ballet school that lets little boys wear tutus?

  1. So sweet – ballerina and guitar! There is a class called “Tots & Tutus” at our local Creation Station, which has a couple of locations in NYC though I don’t know if they would be at all convenient for you http://www.creationstationdance.com/ We have not tried this out yet for our son, but it’s a great idea and we might be headed to tutu-land ourselves sometime soon!

My 4 yo son wants to take ballet too–it seems much less acceptable in my suburban town but we’re going to do it anyway.
Is Spoke the Hub still around in the Slope? We never managed to take classes there, but it always sounded like a good spot.

brilliant!! I have (not so) secret dreams that W stars in a revival of Billy Elliot in a few years. Seriously. Every night when I put him in a fresh and white onesie with his H&M boy tights (shut up. they are blue. blue is for BOYS!) up and over the onesie he looks like such a beautiful dancing boy. And you should see how well he points his toes when he is jumping in the jumparoo…

This is also my dream. Good thing they triple and quadruple cast the thing or I’d be having them start battling for the role now. Bring it, W!
