rockstar weight gain
Posted: August 27, 2007 Filed under: Uncategorized 22 Comments »8 lbs 9.5oz
Which has him within a half ounce of regaining his birthweight at 12 days old.
And which means he gained 6.5 oz since Thursday.
Whew.
—————-
Just for the record,
THINGS WE’VE TRIED TO MAKE HIM SLEEP
* Miracle Blanket
* tight swaddle in other swaddlers
* white noise
* heartbeat sound
* side-lying nursing still too painful for me with c-section
* sling – he likes it fine but it’s the night that is my main complaint at this point
TO TRY
* carseat sleeping
* heating Moses basket (though it’s fricking hot here anyway and he sweats when swaddled – still OK?)
* the awesome Sleep Sheep stuffed animal that Aunt Patti sent that not only does heartbeat but WHALE noises. A sheep that makes whale noises. Yes.

You could try the carseat.
Yay for weight gain! My ickle one took a long damn time (even with ATC nursing–constantly) to regain his birthweight. You guys are awesome!
I’m so sorry for my dumbass suggestion about the swaddle. My brain is fried today. Only now do I remember you talking about how he’s broken out of the swaddle since shortly after birth. So sorry. I really do pay attention (and read what you write), I do.
car seat + white noise = happy Malka.
otherwise known as “option c” on the menu?
Sorry it’s so rough.
White noise might work. Our daughter decided at 2 weeks that swaddling is for babies. Apparently not her thing and she then slept and continues to sleep merrily in the Halo Sleep Sack. We still run a white noise machine – have you tried a CD with the hair dryer sounds on it? Worked like magic for the first bit here when she was born. How about a swing? I know you’re not supposed to leave them in there forever, but sometimes the upright, motion, white noise combo does the trick. Just some thoughts.
Congrats on the great weight gain for Beckett. Good job mama!
Mandy (and others) – I by no means meant to say anyone’s suggestion was dumbass!!! I am SOOO grateful for all tips and hints and suggestions. I just thought it would save people time and energy if I posted what we’d tried.
A combo may be helpful – we’ll have to think about that.
nice weight gain, Beck!
& a sheep that makes whale noises? that MUST be the answer- it is too brilliant not to be.
xoxo
The carseat was a life saver for us, but we had a convertible one (upright).
Both Lauren and Alexander slept best in their Aquarium swing. Other than that, it was on my chest for months…
Fabulous weight gain! You are nourishing a thriving little human being – what a powerful and wonderful accomplishment!
My cousin found that using the elliptical helped get her son to sleep…
Does your moses basket have a stand or is it on the floor/some other surface? Natalie never slept that well in hers (yes, I’m disagreeing with Jen’s assessment here). From that, and from putting a fussier sleeper down for naps in a PNP, it seems to me that (for some babies anyway) the motion of being put down onto a low surface can be jarring enough to keep them from sleeping well. Obviously, if you have a stand, this is not the issue (and perhaps even if you don’t have a stand it’s not the issue).
A friend had some success with one of those in the bed secure sleeper things. Allowed the baby to be close, but not ON them.
Good luck. He will sleep eventually. And way to go with the weight gain!
This might not work with your situation, but you say that you have been able to get Beck asleep in the pouch. Occasionally I would put K. down if he feel asleep in the pouch simply by taking the pouch off and laying him in his cosleeper. I wonder if that might work.
That’s great that the b.f. is working out after all. One step at a time.
vaccuming or hair blower
How about a baby swing? Get the kind that swings and has soft lights and music. My daughter would pass out about three seconds after we strapped her in. I hated when she outgrew it.
Somewhere in the Atlantic ocean, a humpback whale is saying, “Baaaaa.”
That weight gain is impressive. You (and Beck) are rock stars.
Sorry, I am a bit behind but am just checking in. He is so beautiful Bri! You cooked a damn good-looking baby!
) I’m so glad the nursing is going better – I too accepted the constant on-demand feeding and like everything everyone tells you, it does get better (though I wanted to smack everyone that told me that, so sorry!) Does he like the swing at all? Or a vibrating chair? Edie loved those. She also liked sleeping right next to me, in the bed. During the day I often wore her in the Moby. Every baby has their thing, obviously. She has her not-so-great points but one thing I will say is she has been a good sleeper from the get-go with naps.
Forgot to add that we did all the crap that was in that “Happiest Baby on the Block” DVD (swaddling the way they do it, which was key!, shushing/white noise machine, etc. etc,) and while it seems dumb it is one of the things I have consistently heard has worked for most babies. You’ll figure it out.
YAY BOOBS!
hmm. walk to sleep in the stroller and then creep into house with baby asleep in carseat,HOPING to god that the phone doesnt ring and wake his cranky ass up.
swing?
let him go to sleep in sling and then open sling and slip your head out and lay him in sling into basket?
swaddle his ass up really well, and wedge him into his basket with his head pressed up against the bumper?
carseat on dryer? with dryer on cool so you dont kill him.
you probably dont want to hear any more from me since i am the idiot that said bf with a c-section is fine and that side-lying is no trouble at all. whoops. i did say that PAIN CONTROL is very key.
good luck.
oh yeah and i went off dairy COMPLETELY, even goat and sheep. i want to slit my wrists but the child is doing much better.
oh yeah and with my 1st daughter i put her swaddled in her carseat nestled into a bouncy that was on vibrate. it’s much easier to jiggle a friggin carseat when its in a bouncy. the sleep consultant told me to STOP AT ONCE AND PUT THE BABY DOWN AND LEAVE HER. but fuck her, what does she know. at 12 days do anything.
does your boy houdini out of the swaddle me velcro contraption? double swaddle his ass then. again trying not to kill him from the heat. i got breathable (and gorgeous) lightweight muslin blankies from http://www.adenandanais.com and then put the velcro deal over it. lets see him houdini out of that one. ha.
